How do I activate my account and set up MFA

Pfeiffer Account Activation Guide

 

1. Create your SignOn account - https://signon.pfeiffer.edu/

  • Select Account Activation



2. Enter your username (ID# for students, FirstName.LastName for employees) and click Continue



3. Enter your Pfeiffer Email Address and ID Number provided by Human Resources or Admissions. Click Submit.



4. Create your new password. When you click into the text field, the password requirements will appear. 

  • 12 characters
  • contains uppercase, lowercase, digits, and special characters
  • cannot contain your username



5. Once your password has been successfully set, you will be redirected to the login page. 

  • The employee username is FirstName.LastName. 
  • The student username is the ID number. 
  • When you enter your login credentials do not use the pfeiffer\ prefix and do not use the @pfeiffer.edu extension. If you do not know your username and password, please email techsupport@pfeiffer.edu.

 

6. After signing in for the first time, you will need to configure at least two multifactor authentication (MFA) methods. 


Option 1: Set a recovery email

  1. Select the Email tab
  2. Click Add Secondary email address
  3. Enter the secondary email address you wish to have verification codes sent. This must be a personal e-mail address like @gmail, @icloud, etc. You must click the green check mark to send the verification email.   
  4. Check the email account entered for a 7-digit verification code
  5. Enter the verification code in your SignOn account
  6. You will see a message confirming your email.

 



Option 2: Set a recovery phone number

  1. Select the Phone tab
  2. Click Add Primary phone number
  3. Select your country, enter the mobile phone you wish to have verification codes sent, and click the green check mark
  4. Check your text messages for the 7-digit verification code 
  5. Enter the verification code in your SignOn account
  6. You will see a message confirming your phone number.



Option 3: Set up DUO push notifications for Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Select the DUO tab, then click Set up. If you are a Pfeiffer employee that has used Duo before, no set up is required. 
  2. Click Get started
  3. Choose Duo Mobile. Both options will have you input your mobile number. Click Continue. Click 'Yes, it's correct' to confirm the number you input.
  4. Click Send me a passcode. Enter the verification code that was sent to your mobile phone.
  5. Download the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device then click Next.
  6. Open the Duo Mobile app, click Add in the top right, click Use QR code, scan the QR code provided
  7. Click Log in with Duo. You should receive a notification on your phone from the Duo app. Open the app and click the green check mark to approve the login. 
  8. You should then be redirected to the SignOn MFA page.





Option 4: Set an Authenticator for Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Select the Authenticator tab
  2. You will need to install Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device using an App Store.
  3. Open the authenticator app on your mobile device and scan or enter the key.
  4. The authenticator app will then generate a code. Type this code under Step 2 to complete the authenticator set up. 



Option 5: Set three security questions

  1. Click the Security Questions tab
  2. Provide answers to three different security questions
  3. Click Save

 

Once you are done configuring MFA, scroll to the top of the page and click 'login here.' This will take you back to the main login screen.


Once signed in, you will see a list of the MFA factors you configured. The ways in which you will be prompted by each factor are below. You may click 'Trust this device,' which will prevent the MFA prompt for 30 days on the device you successfully authenticate with.
